Dog Food Options for Dogs with Sensitive Stomachs

If you guys haven’t realized this yet, my dog means the WORLD to me. Especially now that I am home every day, I just can’t get enough of her. So when she feels sick, I do everything I can to make her feel better.

As she has gotten older, she has had more issues with her stomach. We have tried multiple kinds of food to see what works for her, but we have decided to go grain-free with Purina® Pro Plan® and see how that worked with her stomach – and boy are we glad we did!!

If you have a dog with stomach issues, here is what to look for to help ease their stomach (while still letting them enjoy their food!):

1.  Do your research

When you are looking for the right kind of food for your dog, you need to research before heading to the store and being overwhelmed by all of the options. A useful tool is the myPlan tool which you can find here. You can also check out the Social Hub which will have many other helpful tutorials so you can discover the best options for your pet.

2. Take your dog to the store with you

We got this dog food at PetSmart, where we shop for all of our pup’s goodies. She always enjoys the trip to PetSmart and all of the yummy smells. We always make sure she likes the smell of whatever we get her before we buy it. Thankfully, Pro Plan passed the test.

Plus, Dori loves going to PetSmart because she always gets loved on and spoiled by the staff. It is our favorite place to take her, and it is her favorite place to be.

3. Look for food with the right texture that your dog will enjoy

If your pet prefers wet food, make sure that the brand offers it. However, if your pet likes dry food (like mine), look for food that contains a variety of textures. Pro Plan contains crunchy kibble and tender shredded pieces.

4. Don’t sacrifice taste!

You shouldn’t have to pick food for your dog that they don’t find yummy. So pick the flavor your dog loves the most with Pro Plan. They offer: real chicken, beef, lamb or salmon.

I ended up getting turkey & chicken and beef & salmon because those are Dori’s two favorite flavors!

5. Try options like grain-free or no corn, wheat or soy options

To find the best option for your pet, you may need to try different options. Pro Plan offers each of these, making it easy to test what is best for your pet’s stomach and cognitive health. The also have other options formulated for age or activity lifestyle that will help you narrow it down. All of these options include all of the nutrition your pet needs, backed by a team of over 400 Purina scientists including nutritionists, behaviorists and veterinarians. This is why the food is our #1 choice for our Dori!

Luckily we don’t have special dietary needs, but I am still picky about the formulas we feed our pets- I love that the Purina University helps pet owners choose the right formula for their pets! #client

I just got a Germnan Shepherd puppy and his previous owner advised a type of food he used to eat. However he doesn’t seem to enjoy it at our home.. Wonder if it’s a change in locations? Same food… Will do some research to see what suits him x
