An Apple A Day Keeps the Basic Tendencies Away

Ah, ’tis the season of apple picking and pumpkin carving. I used to find fall pretty overrated, but I am starting to see the appeal. Or maybe I’m just becoming extra basic. Whatever the reason, apple picking was something I was totally looking forward to this year.

I planned on wearing my super cute new scarf, a sweater and boots – the signature basic girl fall outfit. Except… when I stepped outside in this cute outfit it was 70-something degrees. Oh, global warming.

We got to the apple orchard and met up with nieces and nephews. Kids are the perfect way to hide your true excitement for activities like picking an apple from a tree for more money than it costs to get them at the grocery store. Just walk around with them and point out the perfect apples (and then take some for yourself).

After stocking up on more apples than I thought could possibly fit in that tiny bag, we headed back to the store. Is it possible to not buy something when you walk through those stores? Seriously, though. Everything is homemade (or at least made to look like it) and looks so delicious. Somehow, I ended up with a pineapple salsa. It makes no sense.

But my biggest prize? The apple cider donuts. AND THESE ONES CAME WITH FROSTING!

All in all, I’d say it was a successful trip, despite the summer weather and mud we had to pick our way through. Certainly got me in the fall spirit! Except now I have more apples than I know what to do with. If you have any good recipes to share, comment on here! I would love to try some new fall recipes. In the meantime, I’ll keep eating my way through the pile.
