How to Wear: Palazzos

Meet the Palazzo pants, which is another word for wide leg, high waist trousers! Wide leg silhouettes combine the flowy, feminine feeling of a skirt with the practicality of a pair of pants. The Palazzo pants were a huge thing back in 1960s and it seems that the trend has made its comeback seeing as a great number of both trendsetters and celebrities own one in their wardrobes. While I must say I was never quite comfortable with wearing pants/jeans which were not skinny, the new trend has me head over heels and wanting to replace all my skinny jeans which have accumulated through the years.

So, you’ve seen them, fell in love with them and now you probably wonder, HOW DO I WEAR THEM?

TALL/SHORT WOMEN: SHOULD YOU WEAR?

Palazzo pants are a great choice anytime because they can look good on both tall and petite women.

Those women who are petite can always rock these pants with a pair of killer heels, open-toe heels or even wedges. Even if you don’t go for a pair of heels and you are shorter, don’t worry because the pants elongate the legs and make short women look much taller.

On the other hand, taller women might enjoy wearing these pants with a pair of flats or even with heels, which adds much more to the overall feminine look. Some might also dare to wear them with sneakers (photo below).

These pants have both a high waist and a wide leg, making it almost impossible for you to make a mistake wearing them. Either way you choose, it will look great and you will get the attention you desire.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT COLOR

First of all, I must emphasize how important it is to pay attention on the season. Brighter colors and lighter materials for spring and summer, opposite in autumn. That being said, white and baby blue are two great picks for summer. Generally, these pants are worn during spring/summer, but you can also wear them on sunny autumn days in a burgundy or brownish/camel colors with a thicker material.

Palazzo pants look the great in bright, bold colors, white and combining black and white. Simplicity is what you aim for, so what’s better than black and white?

Aside from these colors, some other great colors are indigo blue, baby blue, baby pink, beige, camel and burgundy. Even though I am not a big fan of green, I’ve seen some amazing combinations of those, too. Pick a color which suits you the best from these and you’re almost ready to go.

SHIRTS, CROPPED TOPS & T-SHIRTS

If there’s one advice I can give you, that is: stay away from wild prints. Keep it simple, quote-free and keep it bright. Having this in mind, pick whatever you like, be it a tight plain t-shirt or even a crop top. The point is to keep it simple, but pretty in order make sure your pants stand out and not the other way around. In the variety of pictures I’ve provided, you can see how these pants have been paired up with a wide range of tops.

When wearing pants in a neutral color like white, you can always go for a bolder color such as orange or indigo blue. Also, I recommend leaving all your prejudices at home when it comes to wearing a full white outfit, since this look is probably the most sophisticated one this summer. Other amazing feminine combinations include a mix of baby pink/baby blue and white.

Black pants are best worn with the white tops while all others can and should be worn with a variety of soft, bright colors.

Choose the most flattering materials and go for silk, cotton and silk combined with lace.

DETAILS & ACCESSORIES

Palazzo pants themselves are quite eye catching, so I would recommend you have minimal/no jewelry. It will drag the attention away from the real thing (and by this, we mean the Palazzos) and make you look like you’re trying too hard. Of course, a final touch should be added by wearing a nice clutch or a statement bag, but nothing too big.

The only other two details/accessories which I’ve always imagined wearing with these pants is a big floppy hat and feminine cat-eye sunglasses. I must say I found my inspiration from pics of Amal Alamuddin Clooney (picture below). My wardrobe was already enriched with a hat like this few days ago and now I am on my journey to find these pants.

Whatever you choose, remember: SIMPLICITY IS THE KEY!!

It is so hard for me to pull of wide legged pants as I am quite petite and the big pants tend to make me look like a clown and that my pants is out to swallow me alive. But I agree, with the right styling and keeping things simple, it def works for short girls too. so many amazing inspos and great tips!

Palazzos are probably the chicest kind of pants out there! While I would prefer to wear heels with them, if the length isn’t too long I love wearing mine with sneakers :)www.samanthamariko.com

Oh how I love the palazzo pants. Unfortunately, on pictures [ at least in my case ] it’s always super difficult to stay "slim" in them and not looking like you’re wearing a huge tent xD. SO.. I got a love/hate relationship with them haha. XO Charissa || http://www.ladygoldapple.com ||

I’m tall and I still wear my palazzo pants. Who doesn’t want longer legs even if you already have them? Me! Haha I’m a fan of pretty much any style, any color. You can’t go wrong with any of them honestly. They flatter all body types!

You look amazing in Palazzo pants. I may need to get a pair but I always hesitate because I’m such a shorty. Thank you for the inspiration.

I love how easy and breezy they can be, while being hugely elegant at the same time. I have a vintage Missoni pair that I love for summer. But I don’t often remember to wear them.xx Jenellewww.inspiringwit.com

Personally I’m afraid I’d look way short in wide pants like these, and despite the fact that I won’t wear palazzo pants, you actually gave me some self confidence when saying that even petite women can wear them, so I do have to reconsider widening my pants a bit from those skinnies :)xoxoThomas

Yes simplicity is key because the pants are so bold in nature. I love love love palazzo pants! It’s the perfect breezy summer pant and it really elevates your look. I love the high waist and wide leg combo so much!

I looooove palazzo pants! I’m on the shorter side of the spectrum and used to have my fears about this type of trousers being too much for my petite figure, but you are absolutely right, petite girls can definitely rock this look too. As long as it’s a bit high-waisted and hemmed to the right length, palazzo pants can make my legs look incredibly long.
